FeedWordPress

"FeedWordPress is an Atom/RSS aggregator for WordPress. It syndicates content from feeds that you choose into your WordPress weblog; the content it syndicates appears as a series of special posts in your WordPress posts database. If you syndicate several feeds then you can use WordPress's posts database and templating engine as the back-end of an aggregation ("planet") website."

Using RSS to Aggregate Information

An easy way to start aggregating news and event feeds from group websites is by first building a directory. This will help you identify the appropriate feeds to bring together, how to tag them, and, importantly, which groups don't have websites. If groups are doing valuable work but don't yet have a feed-producing website, consider helping them get started via a simple Wordpress training; an hour or two of time now could save many more down the line by producing a valuable stream of information.

Feeds from group websites can be aggregated and managed using a Wordpress content management system plugin called Feed Wordpress for news feeds and All-in-One Calendar for events feeds. Both plug-ins allow users to automatically categorize all feed items that are imported with a word like “newsfeed”.

This is an extremely useful way to separate syndicated content sources (i.e. content from other sites) from internal content that originates from within the site. Then you can create a Wordpress Menu Item for all items categorized with “newsfeed”, which will give you the ability to publish a stream of news and events from other sites on this central site.
